Departure · day one

Westward, over afternoon tea

The train leaves London and heads west through the English countryside towards Somerset and Cornwall. The early hours on board are part of the appeal: afternoon tea inspired by regional produce, beautifully designed carriages, a wellness suite and Belmond's polished, unhurried style setting the tone for the days ahead.

The interlude · day four

A day given to the train

As the route turns from Cornwall towards Wales, the emphasis shifts back to life on board: dinners shaped by seasonal British ingredients, cocktails in the botanically inspired bar and the easy sociability of the observation carriage. This slower stretch is what makes the Britannic Explorer distinctive, giving the journey itself the same weight as the places along it.

The return · day seven

A last morning, and the Cotswolds

Before the return to London the route calls at Moreton-in-Marsh, where a traditional pub celebration makes a fitting farewell. Throughout, the experience is underpinned by Belmond's highly styled approach to British rail travel, with excursions designed to connect guests to a place in a way that feels intimate rather than hurried.

Day by day

The itinerary, day by day

  1. Depart London

Board the Britannic Explorer in London and settle into your cabin as the train makes its way west through the English countryside. Afternoon tea, time in the bar or wellness suite and dinner on board make an indulgent first day before the train reaches Somerset by evening.

  2. Somerset and Cornwall

Wake to the landscapes of the southwest as the journey continues towards Cornwall. This stretch is shaped by artistic, culinary and coastal experiences, drawing on the region's creative energy and Atlantic scenery.

  3. Cornwall

A fuller day in Cornwall, among seaside towns, coastal walks and cultural stops. By evening, return on board for dinner and another night of refined rail travel.

  4. Towards Wales

As the Cornwall chapter closes, the day takes a gentler rhythm centred on the train itself: the changing views, the regionally inspired cooking and the atmosphere of the observation carriage.

  5. Wales and the Pembrokeshire coast

Arrive into Wales, where the landscape becomes broader and greener. The Pembrokeshire coastline and time outdoors introduce a more pastoral, nature-led contrast to Cornwall's artistic and maritime character.

  6. Eryri and rural Wales

Continue through Wales and the mountain scenery of Eryri National Park. Off-train moments are balanced with time back on board, where another evening of dining, drinks and quiet comfort rounds out the experience.

  7. Moreton-in-Marsh and return to London

A final stop in Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds, with a traditional pub celebration as a farewell, before the Britannic Explorer completes its return journey to the capital.
